How to make a private room

  1. Open roomdrift.com and choose Call or Text.
  2. Tap Create private room. You'll get a six-character code.
  3. Share the code with the people you want in — by message, email, however you like.
  4. They tap Join with code, type it in, and they're in the room with you.

How many people fit in a room

Call rooms: up to 4 people. Everyone sees and hears everyone else. Calls connect directly between browsers, so a small group keeps the picture and sound smooth on ordinary connections.

Text rooms: up to 10 people. A group chat that needs no app and no phone numbers.

You can create as many rooms as you need — every room gets its own code, and lots of rooms can run at the same time.

Private means private

Only people with the code can get in. Rooms aren't listed anywhere, there's no random matching into them, and when the last person leaves the room closes and its code stops working. Messages aren't stored, and call video goes directly between the people in the room, encrypted.

As with any call, your camera and microphone stay off until you switch them on.
